2020 Estate
Reserve Syrah
The 2020 Vintage was the first in which our team made designated “reserve” wine. While we are proud of all of our wines, we wanted to set apart the best our vineyard has to offer. The reserve wines are made from the top two barrels of each variety. The competition to make these top two barrels was tough as each block of our vineyard has unique terroir and something different to offer. Only 98 cases of the small lot production reserve Syrah were made. The grapes for this reserve wine were hand-harvested.

The nose is dominated by blueberry, black plum and currant with notes of fresh cedar and cinnamon. The palate entry has expressive notes of black bramble pie and cherry medley. Lingering notes of white pepper, olive and dark chocolate round out this soft, dry finish. Venison backstrap, brisket and vegetable curry pair well with this wine.
The 2020 growing season saw a relatively mild summer and a cool ripening season which allowed the fruit to retain acidity – translating into flavor and true expression of varietal character. After harvest the grapes were sent to the winery to be hand-sorted and whole-berry destemmed. The berries rested for 3 days prior to fermentation. The medium-warm fermentation brought out intense berry fruit flavor. The wine was aged sur lie for 3 months followed by an additional 20 months of barrel aging in 90% new French oak and 10% well-seasoned neutral oak.
